TrustedHousesitters has been nominated for Best Community website in the 20th Annual Webby Awards.
Hailed as the “Internet’s highest honour” by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honouring excellence on the Internet.
Web industry experts, including Tumblr founder, David Karp, Head of Partnerships at Instagram, Eva Chen, Twitter co-founder, Biz Stone, Jimmy Kimmel, and creator of the .gif file format, Steve Wichita, nominate and select the Awards winners.
TrustedHousesitters is a global community of pet lovers who are helping each other travel the world. Pet owners when going away can find like-minded people to care for their home and pets completely for free, in return for a free retreat.
With a fast growing membership base in over 140 countries and having helped facilitate over 1million nights in pet sitting, saving members over £150m in accommodation and pet care costs, it has created a solution to a common, global problem.
Having been cited as a new trend in travel, TrustedHousesitters most recently was voted in the Top 50 Most Disruptive Businesses by Real Magazine and Best Technology Business in Brighton by the TechCity Awards.
“Nominees like TrustedHousesitters are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet,” said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. “It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the almost 13,000 entries we received this year.”
“We’re so proud and honoured to be nominated for a Webby and want to thank our growing community – who’s common interests (pets and travel) have helped create meaningful connections between each other, exciting and authentic travel experiences and most importantly happy pets who get to stay at home, when owners are away”, said Andy Peck, CEO of TrustedHousesitters.
As a nominee, TrustedHousesitters is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe.
Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 and honoured at a star-studded ceremony on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Cipriani on Wall Street in New York City.
There they will have an opportunity to deliver one of The Webby Awards’ famous 5-Word Speeches. Past 5-Word Speeches include: Steve Wilhite’s “It’s Pronounced “Jif” not ‘Gif’; Stephen Colbert’s “Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.”; and Björk ‘s “A E I O U.”
